Tips For Choosing Webinar Software

By Ken Morrison

Webinar software is a lot more common these days than it was before. A growing number of companies are using it for broadcasting to an increasingly dispersed workforces that cannot be asked to be present in the office for meetings. There are various features that make this software a lot more effective for other reasons as well.

First and foremost is the matter of how much it costs. Management in most companies are sick of investing in IT products and solutions only to find it out of date before the wrapping comes off. The point here is that there's no cause to worry in this case, since webinar software solutions can be a web-based hosted solution with a flat monthly or annual fee for access.

There is no hardware or maintenance required, nor is there any product installation or user training involved. It is just a simple matter of all the participants being able to fire up a web browser and logging on at the same time to get the broadcast. It is a cheap solution that is easy and quick.

The features that could make it more effective include audio-visual support for webcams and multimedia content, application integration and desktop sharing. These things would make it much more of an interactive team meeting than a 1-way broadcast. An effective solution would thus allow for everything from a PowerPoint presentation to a team meeting for debugging code.

Also important is a robust archiving system. With most companies trying to be environmentally conscious by going paperless, everything has to be recorded in indexed and searchable digital formats. The software has to be able to archive all webinars and preserve them in a safe and secure database.

None of this is anything out of the ordinary, and lots of providers have solutions that have all these features. The key, from a corporate point of view, is to narrow it down to a reliable webinar software provider with a spotless reputation and 24/7 support. This last filter will cut the list down to a handful, and it shouldn't be hard to select from one of these web conferencing providers.
